Welcome to Year 2

Class Teacher: Miss C Black

Class Teacher: Mrs Moodie

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Wharton

Our teachers are Miss Black and Mrs Moodie.

We are now the oldest children in Key Stage One, so we are trying our best to become more independent and be good role models for the younger children in our school. In Year 2 we are encouraged to complete our work independently and to fully apply ourselves during all lessons.

We are looking forward to an exciting year, throughout which we are going to be learning about a variety of amazing topics! We have created our own class rules and will continue to show respect through the RRSA as we as we learn and play with our classmates.

We have very busy days in Year 2 with tasks that help us daily with our reading, English and Mathematics. Our Curriculum is broad and exciting, and helps us to learn about the world around us as well as important people and events in history. We enjoy PE which takes place on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please see our newsletter for more curriculum information. Homework is set every Monday on Seesaw and must be completed by the following Monday. In addition to this, we need to be practising our spellings and times tables at home frequently. The weekly Spelling Test is on a Friday and these spellings can be accessed on our Class Page and on Seesaw.

We love to celebrate our achievements at St Joseph’s during our weekly Achievement assembly. 2 children from Y2 are presented with a ‘Golden Certificate’ for their achievements or their attitude to learning. We also celebrate daily with Dojo points and award a certificate to the child with the most Dojo points. At the end of every term, we will also have a Shining Light and a Most Improved Hand Writer achievement assembly.

Finally, reading is a key part of our learning and it is essential that we read frequently both at home and at school. Don’t forget that for every 3 comments you write in the reading record your child will receive a ticket. There will be draw each term and a chance to win a reading related prize. Also, keep an eye out for the ‘Secret Book Club’ bag, it may be coming home with us soon!

We hope that you have enjoyed reading all about Year 2. I’m sure that you will agree that it is an exciting place to learn.
