We are thrilled to offer our children a Forest School approach to learning. Each week, we welcome the skilled team from SC.OUT.ED Forest School, who work closely with our pupils to provide rich, meaningful outdoor learning experiences in our school grounds. Through exploration, teamwork, and hands-on activities, our children develop confidence, resilience, independence, and a lifelong appreciation of the natural world.
What Children Experience at Forest School
During SC.OUT.ED Forest School lessons, children are encouraged to run, explore, make noise and immerse themselves in nature. They have the chance to encounter age‑appropriate risk, which is essential for healthy child development. Under expert supervision, children take part in activities such as fire building, outdoor cooking, using natural materials, and completing practical woodland tasks. These experiences help them build independence, problem-solving skills, and self-belief in a safe and supportive environment.

Improved Mental Health
Time spent in natural spaces is widely recognised as beneficial for children’s emotional and mental wellbeing. Regular involvement in Forest School helps pupils feel calmer, more grounded, and more connected to their surroundings. The quiet, open environment supports emotional regulation, reduces stress, and provides a powerful space for reflection and wellbeing.

Memories & Friendship
Forest School creates the kind of memories children carry with them for life. Experiences rooted in adventure, challenge, creativity, and sensory exploration help children flourish personally and socially. Working together on woodland tasks promotes cooperation, communication, and deep, lasting friendships.
Building Self-Esteem
Forest School nurtures confidence by encouraging children to take appropriate risks, make choices, and discover things for themselves. Whether they are lighting a fire, building a den, or exploring the woodland, pupils learn to trust their instincts, persevere, and celebrate their achievements. This independence builds resilience and a positive attitude towards learning.

Healthy Exercise
Woodland play brings natural, joyful physical activity. Running through open spaces, climbing trees, balancing on logs, and exploring uneven terrain all support healthy physical development. Children build strength, coordination, stamina, and cardiovascular fitness in a way that is fun, engaging, and developmentally beneficial.
Our Forest School provision has become a valued and integral part of our curriculum. It enhances wellbeing, strengthens relationships, enriches learning, and gives every child the opportunity to experience success beyond the classroom. These experiences support the whole child and provide skills and memories that last far beyond their primary years.
