Year 5 at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Billingham have spent the past two days building confidence, teamwork, and real‑world skills through their experience with the West View Project. Not only did they rise to the challenge — they impressed everyone by successfully completing Star 1 and Star 2 of the National Navigation Qualification.
Over the course of the two days, the children learned how to use and follow a compass, sharpened their directional writing skills, and developed a deeper understanding of map reading. These are fantastic life skills that will stay with them long after the project ends.
What stood out most, though, was their teamwork. The Year 5 pupils worked brilliantly together, showing maturity, excellent behaviour, and a positive attitude throughout the entire programme.
A huge well done to Year 5 — you should be incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved. What brilliant skills you have learned!
