Art has the power to help us reflect, honour, and remember - and the young artists at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Billingham have demonstrated that beautifully over the past few weeks.

Our dedicated Art Club has been working closely with the art teachers at St Michael’s Catholic Academy, creating a thoughtful and symbolic memorial stone to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. This collaborative project wasn’t just about creativity; it was about understanding the past, showing respect, and expressing compassion through artwork.

The children were invited to attend a moving Holocaust Memorial Day liturgy at St Michael’s, where they placed their handmade stone at the memorial statue. It was a powerful moment - quiet, reflective, and deeply meaningful. Our pupils represented the school with great sensitivity and maturity, fully aware of the importance of what they were contributing to.

A heartfelt thank you goes to St Michael’s Catholic Academy for welcoming our pupils so warmly and supporting them throughout this creative journey. And of course, huge congratulations to our talented children, whose artwork and attitude truly captured the spirit of remembrance.

Their commitment, care, and empathy shine through in everything they do, and we couldn’t be prouder.
