Year 1 pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Billingham have had a wonderfully busy and exciting start to the new term, filled with curiosity, creativity, and outdoor learning.

Exploring the Seasons in Year 1

As part of their learning in science, the children have been deepening their understanding of the four seasons, with a particular focus on winter. With the season well and truly upon us, it was the perfect opportunity to explore how the weather changes and how winter can be spotted all around us.

Winter Walk Brings Learning to Life

The children enjoyed a refreshing winter walk, where they carefully observed and discussed the signs of winter in their local environment. From chilly temperatures and bare trees to frosty ground and shorter days, the walk brought classroom learning to life and encouraged pupils to ask thoughtful questions about the world around them.

Creative Winter Artwork

Back in the classroom, the children used their observations as inspiration to create some beautiful winter‑themed artwork. Their snowy scenes were full of imagination and detail, showcasing not only their creativity but also their growing understanding of seasonal changes.

Curiosity, Enthusiasm and a Love of Learning

Throughout the week, Year 1 showed fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm for their learning. Activities like outdoor exploration and creative expression help to build confidence, develop key skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning.

We are incredibly proud of how well Year 1 have settled into the term and look forward to sharing more of their learning journey here at St Joseph’s Billingham.
